I grew up in a small town where nothing interesting happened and nobody interesting lived. I hated being bored all the time. I started discovering new cultures pretty young, starting with classic British TV shows and Bollywood performances that I just kind of bumped into.
The idea that other parts of the world were so wildly different from each other fascinated me. I always loved listening to the hop in an Irish tune, seeing the sequins in an outfit from India, and even the mountains of Europe that were so different from my flat, humid life in Florida.
I never knew what I wanted to do with my life; I knew I wanted to see the world, but I didn’t know how to do it. When I started college, I decided to study anthropology, just because that was the closest I could get to learning about different cultures.
Well, I got my degree…but it didn’t really do much. So I decided to teach English abroad, and that’s when everything started. Spending a year wandering around Europe, learning Spanish in Spain, and getting to see history right in front of my eyes was everything that I had been looking for all my life. I did it. I found what I wanted to do.
While teaching English in a secondary school didn’t end up being a great match for me, I finally realized what I wanted to get out of my life: travel, history, and all the foreign languages I can get my hands on.
And thus Crashed Culture was born. A collection of all the things that bring different cultures together: language, history, culture, and travel. So stick around a while and learn about the world with me!
