Though my prior proofreading experience involves everything from websites to books to blogs, Crashed Culture focuses on proofreading documents from ESL students.
Why am I right for the job?
- I’m a native English speaker. No matter how fluent, a non-native English speaker will never understand English the way I do.
- A language learner myself, I know what to look for when it comes to errors in translations. I can almost predict flaws in your writing.
- I am TESOL certified and have experience in teaching ESL, giving me real-life experience with how foreign speakers handle English.
- As an associate of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, I have been trained as a professional proofreader. I have been taught to find even the smallest mistakes.
…who’s going to travel the world!
Now that you know my resume, let me tell you a little bit about myself.
My biggest dream, ever since I was a little ankle-biter, has been to travel the world. Why? I have always been fascinated by all things culture: language, social norms, architecture, taboos, international perspectives, etc. The only problem with a passion like this is that there’s nowhere to find this information without actually traveling! Even attending college as an anthropology major just didn’t do it for me. So, when I found how talented I am at proofreading by sheer luck, I decided to use it in a way that would both allow me to travel the world and provide the world with something that didn’t exist yet. And so Crashed Culture born.
My plan? For the time being, I will learn about and report on as much culture as I can; the internet is a wonderful place. When the time comes, I’ll travel up, down, and around America to see culture for myself!
