I'm Jamie (and this is my life story).
I grew up in a teeny tiny Florida town. There was never much going on. Nothing new. Nobody new. As long as I can remember, I've had this thirst for new, different things. I dreamed of spending Christmas in London, Holi in India, and La Tomatina in Spain. I wanted all these amazing experiences that just didn't exist for me!
When it was time for college, I moved to a slightly bigger place - Tampa, Florida. A bit more diverse! When I finished college, I realized that while studying anthropology was as good idea as any for what I wanted to spend my life doing, my only realistic options were teaching, working in a museum, or, if I was lucky, I could be a field anthropologist. All these options required graduate school. Lol, no.
So, when I finished college, I set off into the world to follow my dreams. I dreamed of traveling the world, so that's exactly what I did. I off and moved to Spain to teach English, with my very minimal Spanish skills and zero concept of direction.
That was the most amazing experience of my life.
Now, I didn't get to fluency. But I got comfortable with conversation, and went back home at the end of the year with this need to get back out there and learn more Spanish. And French. And Arabic and Icelandic and Russian. So literally everything.
So I came home, sat down at my desk, and studied. Er, tried to study. It got hard. All of a sudden, I couldn't get myself back in the game! I turned on the TV and all the voices were speaking English. I went for a drive and none of the streets tried to fool me into thinking I was in a foreign country. I wasn't immersed! Language learning just got hard! HELP!
So here I am, learning Spanish day-by-day, inching forward in my non-immersion, and helping you to do the same. Tackling the hardest concepts so you can just look at a blog post and think "huh, I get it!"
